in the quiet of the afternoon
the wind blowing outside
chimes ringing
I can feel and hear
the freedom of the day
mine for the picking
mine for the choosing
I want to change
into a place
where I'm not afraid
to stand my ground
or be alone
in an unusual place
away from home
but here
I am right here

steamy sunday
trying to get color
on my face
the day is lazy
and long
sweaty on the astro-turf
the street sizzles
and birds quiet down a bit.
it isn't even noon
and it's 86 degrees
standing in the sand
the cool water
cools the toes and heals
rising up the body
sunshine and joy
under opressive conditions

by drenching rain
I take as many deep breaths as I can
through the nose
out the mouth
face the window
distracted by the aphids on my seedlings
ladybugs are coming
ready to feast
not only beautiful
working dilligently
while feasting on the buffet
living their short life
on this morning
all of this is golden
