my god I slaved to find this

Good Thing Going - Stephen Sondheim

We had a good thing going,
It started out like a song.
It started out quiet and slow,
With no surprise
And then one morning I woke
To realize
We had a good thing going.

It's not that nothing went wrong;
Some angry moments, of course,
But just a few,
And only moments, no more,
Because we knew
We had this good thing going.

And if I wanted too much,
Was that such
A mistake
At the time?
You never wanted enough-
All right, though,I don't make
That a crime.And while it's going along,
You take for granted some love
Will wear away.
We took for granted a lot,
And still I say;

It could have kept on growing,
Instead of just kept on.
We had a good thing going,
We had a good thing going,
Going. . .
It started out like a song
It started quiet and slow
With no surprise.
And then one morning I woke
To realize
It could have kept on growing,
Instead of just kept on.
We had a good thing going,
We had a good thing
Going,
Going,
Gone.

quiet time again

I woke up around 6:30 this morning, knowing I wanted to get up at 7:00. it's peaceful and quiet and I just love that. no tv on; my husband is still sleeping and that's usually when the tv comes on, unless I turn on the news. it's foggy, which makes things seem even quieter, except for the birds chirping away and an occasional car driving by. it reminds me, minus the cars, of camping in the Catskills and the peaceful mornings at Pepacton. really, it would be quiet most of the day except for the occasional flock of birds. we saw wild turkeys last time. can't wait to go back and canoe on the Delaware tributary. this week has brought some peace back to my life. thank God for conjunctivitis. blessing in disguise.

it's been

a good week this week. even though I've been sick and stuck at home, glued to my computer and phone, the weather has been Springy and gorgeous. I also think I need this rest and break from the daily commute. now, I can start the next week fresh and hopefully more relaxed. I am thankful for feeling happy right now and for being alive. I love Springtime!

it's nice

I have a horrible eye infection and have to stay home for 2 days. this is good, since I'm burned out and need some relaxation. I'm going to an eye doctor today. what's nice about this? looking in the mirror, I realized the only make up I usually wear is around my eyes. can't do that today, so I looked at my face and thought "I really don't need any other make up." it's nice to feel confident without having to cover up imperfections, or to have no imperfections to cover up in the first place.

when I was a kid

I used to stay with my grandparents. my grandfather was wheelchair bound. he had to have a leg amputated because of rheumatoid arthritis. he also had to have pain medication. in the evenings, he would instruct me on how to make the coffee just right for him and I enjoyed helping him out. I think of him when I drink coffee in the afternoon.
